Getting Started with the Art Journal Tutorial
In this tutorial, we’ll craft an art journal that beautifully showcases Eileen Hull's new collection. Gather your supplies, and let's create a watercolor art journal!
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
Before diving in, collect the following items:
Eileen Hull’s Sizzix dies, stencils, and stamps
Mat board
Watercolor paper
Paintbrush
Watercolor paint (I used Royal Talens)
Stamping ink
Fibers (ribbon or yarn)
Scissors
Book binding supplies (awl, wax thread, needle)
Adhesive
Spray bottle with water
Having everything organized ensures that you can focus on unleashing your creativity without interruptions.
Step 2: Create Your Journal Cover
Cut out the Handbound Journal cover twice and the rest of that die once out of mat board.
Use the Swatch Cards stamp set with the watercolor paint to stamp and decorate your front and back covers.
Cut out the desired thinlit shapes from Rainbow Wheels with cardstock to embellish the cover. Also, cut out the front label from the Journal Hardware die and stamp a sentiment using stamping ink.

Step 3: Bind Your Signatures
Cut multiple sheets of watercolor paper to fit neatly inside your cover.
Determine the number of signatures you want in your swatch journal.
Bind each of them into your spine using wax thread and an awl.
Step 4: Finish Assembling Your Journal
Align the spine with the holes on the front and back cover from the inside and adhere the spine to the covers.
Use a piece of twine or yarn and thread it from the front cover to the back horizontally all the way down the journal to create a unique look!
Add charms or embellishments to the twine so your journal has a personal touch.
